So, the other day, I got this email from a retired school teacher:

I just wanted to shoot you a quick thank you email for your Colonial Brewer website.

As a retired teacher, I’m staying busy by volunteering in the youth department of my library; I tutor kids after school. (I can’t let my brain rot away haha!)

One of my students is working on a social studies project about the American Revolution, and the information you have on there has been a big help! We’ve referenced it quite a bit!

I encouraged the kids to do some research on their own and I was very impressed with the resources they found. They wanted to share a resource they thought you’d like at:

https://wizardpins.com/blogs/education/a-guide-to-historical-reenactment-authentic-depictions-from-period-language-to-patches

It’s a great beginner’s guide to Historical Reenactment! I know you’re probably busy, but I was wondering if you could include this link on your Favorite Resources page for me? (At

Colonialbrewer.com/resources/my-favorite-suttlers-and-suppliers/) If there’s anything I’ve learned in my years of working with the youth, it’s that encouragement is such a powerful thing!

I’d love to show the group they’re helping others out there. I think they’d get a kick outta it! Let me know; I meet with them again this week! Hope to hear from you soon…

I know most of you will go to the linked site and remark that this is very elementary stuff that you all learned a long time ago but remember that once upon a time (long, long ago for some of us…) you were new to reenacting and living history.  Let’s take a few minutes to remember that everyone starts at the beginning with no real idea of how to join in the programs we run.  Take a few minutes and help them on their way or else they may become LARPers at a RenFaire. 😊

Want to have the

My goal is to bring history alive through interactive portrayal of ordinary American life in the late 18th Century (1750—1799) My persona are: Journeyman Brewer; Cordwainer (leather tradesman but not cobbler), Statesman and Orator; Chandler (candle and soap maker); Gentleman Scientist; and, Soldier in either the British Regular Army, the Centennial Army, or one of the various Militia. Let me help you experience history 1st hand!
