On January 6, 2021, following the defeat of U.S. President Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election, a mob of his supporters attacked the United States Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. The mob sought to keep Trump in power by preventing a joint session of Congress from counting the electoral college votes.
While still President of the United States, Trump gave a speech in which he encouraged his supporters to march to the Capitol and “fight like hell.” After his speech, thousands of armed protesters breached police perimeters, entered, vandalized and looted the Capitol building, assaulted Capitol Police and attempted to stop the certification of the US Election.
A gallows was erected west of the Capitol, and some rioters chanted “Hang Mike Pence” after he rejected false claims by Trump and others that the vice president could overturn the election results. Vandals looted the offices of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other members of Congress and the Congress was forced into security locked down.
Although many of the actual looters were tried and convicted, Trump has not yet answered for his crimes.
In the spirit of England’s Guy Fawkes celebration, we need to celebrate the thwarting of this treason so that no one ever forgets.
Remember, remember, when you vote in November, The presidential sedition and plot. I see no reason Why January treason Should ever be forgot. Donald Trump the lying Don, 'twas his intent To overthrow our Constitution and the government They cheated me he did scream So, steal the election he did scheme His plan was to stop the Congress mid vote But patriots in the Congress prevailed And this treason failed Neither Pelosi nor Pence were smote Holler boys, holler boys, remember we are the United States Holler boys, holler boys, No one man our freedom annihilates
Ring bells, Burn effigies and Fire cannons.
But above all — VOTE
and vote for someone who loves our country more than themselves.
