I need your help with the Moland House. After 15 years of tireless effort and superb leadership, Jo-Anne Mullen has decided to step down from organizing the annual reenactment at Moland House. In order to make sure this event continues uninterrupted, I am taking the reins of organizing the event (sadly this means I will not be brewing there this year) and I would truly appreciate everyone helping me make this year at least as good as it has been for the last 15 years.
The Warwick Township Historical Society has worked long and hard to save the Moland House from ruin. This site was part of a 13-day encampment by 11,000 troops of the Continental Army and where the Marquis de Lafayette first assumed his duties as a Major General, and Washington met Count Casimir Pulaski for the first time. It is a wonderfully restored house and grounds and a true treasure worthy of our support.

On July 31st, 1777, the Continental Army was marching from New Jersey to Philadelphia and General Greene ordered that the army camp at the “Falls of the Schuylkill.” On Sunday, the 10th of August, word was received that a large British fleet had been sighted in the Delaware Bay. The Army stayed at Moland until 3:00 am on Saturday, August 23rd. During that stay, the Marquis de Lafayette came to join Washington’s army and the Continental Cavalry was created under the command of Count Casimir Pulaski.
Every year, since 2012, the Warwick Township Historical Society has hosted reenactment and encampment in August that that includes military reenactors as well as artisans and entertainers. This annual reenactment is a critical fundraiser for the Warwick Historical Society who maintains the site. Unfortunately, with Jo-Anne taking a much-deserved retirement as organizer of this event, there was a question as to whether this year it would be cancelled.
I could not allow that to happen. This year we are celebrating the 200th anniversary of Lafayette’s return to tour and this site is a HUGE part of the legacy of our fair general. So, I am taking the reins and I need your help and support. Please contact me ASAP if you can support us as a donor, an artisan, or a military unit. If you know someone who can do a credible impression of Lafayette, please let me know.
The event will be August 17 from 10:00 – 4:00 and all proceeds go to deferring the cost of the reenactment (yes, we can pay modest stipends to reenactors) and to support the Moland House.

Mary,
Moland is doing very well financially. Can I suggest you donate to Fort Mifflin instead. They had a series of disasters this year and have huge need for our support (see https://philadelphia.today/2024/02/fort-mifflin-climate-change/?cat=historic and https://fort-mifflin.networkforgood.com/projects/216312-preservation-and-storm-damage-remediation). The Regimental Brewmeister is doing a fundraiser on 3/30 (Purging of the Kegs — https://colonialbrewer.com/2024/02/09/upcoming-event-the-purging-of-the-kegs-a-fundraiser-for-fort-mifflin/) and the Philadelphia Continental Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution is hosting an appeal (https://www.pccsar.org/pcc-projects).
I appreciate your support for this event but there are sites in much greater need.
