Okay, this is a rant. If that offends you, delete this email or skip this blog article. It is unfortunately, election season and I have some tags left. <<< === Good Hunting!

“Mind Your Business” is a truly American Slogan.
We Even Put it on our Money in 1787.

The so-called Fugio cent — also known as the “Franklin,” “Sun Dial,” “Ring” and “Mind your business” cent — was first minted by Congress in 1787.  The “sun and sundial on this coin symbolize time, and together with the Latin word fugio (‘I fly’), they express the idea ‘time flies.'” Below the sundial is the phrase “Mind Your Business.”  On the other side of the coin are 13 links forged into an unbroken chain, with “We Are One” representing the uniting of 13 colonies into one nation.  This coin and a similarly minted dollar coin (silver) did not have the current moto “In God We Trust”  instead it read “Mind Your Business.”

Both coins (copper penny and silver dollar) were stamped on one side “thirteen circles linked together, a small circle in the middle, with the words ‘United States,’ round it ;  and in the center, the words ‘We are one;’ on the other side of the same piece the following device, viz. : a dial with the hours expressed on the face of it ; a meridian sun above, on one side of which is to be the word ‘Fugio,’ and on the other the year in figures ‘1787’ below the dial, the words ‘Mind your Business’

“In God We Trust” won’t appeared on US money until 1864 when a two-cent coin was issued during the Civil War. The following year, Congress allowed the Mint director to place that motto on all gold and silver coins.  The motto “In God We Trust” was placed on United States coins mainly because of an increased religious sentiment during the Civil War. It was adopted as the national motto during the 84th Congress between 1955 and 1956 and by 1957 the phrase began being printed on paper currency.

So, in this election year, take a lesson from the Founding Fathers and Benjamin Franklin, the national moto should be “Mind Your Own Damn Business!”

Remember, Elections only come periodically. We will get past this one and EVENTUALLY, back to normal. In the meantime, relax, have a beer, and remember that true patriots VOTE their conscience not what they are told to vote!
