Okay, MAYBE I am a little less angry than I was yesterday but come on folks…

Are we a republic and a nation where we value the rule of law or are be a “banana republic” where a rich overlord can do no wrong and the government exist to serve them not the people?  Yesterday, armed insurrectionist stormed the Capitol and I am sorry that ONLY FOUR of them were killed.  This was an act of war and cowardice and the police and military should have meet them with fixed bayonets and lethal force.  Instead, they were treated with kid gloves and allowed to celebrate their vandalism not just of the Capitol but also of very fabric of our republic. 

These were not protestors.  These were not people seeking redress for injustices and oppression.  NO, these were the oppressors attempting to overturn the government.  These were Donald Trump’s personal militia determined to suppress the validation of an election and destroy 230 years of Constitutional rule in our country.  We cannot, must not, allow this to stand.  For some issues, we can move forward but we can NEVER FORGET.  So, what should we do?  What can we do?  Well not ignore it and certainly not remain silent. 

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.

We must tell our Congressmen and Senators that enough is enough.  We must DEMAND that they prevent Donald Trump and his minions from causing more damage to our nation.  We must take back the symbols they have usurped and sullied.  Above all, we must confront those who align themselves with the anarchist and call them what they are…  TERROIST!

Yes, our nation was formed out of rebellion but not on trivial and selfish lines.  Our rebellion did not start with the Boston Tea Party but rather the Crown’s response to that act.  Yesterday, Donald Trump “combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws”.  He encouraged acts intent upon “abolishing our most valuable Laws and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments”. He “has excited domestic insurrections amongst us”.   It is clear that any ruler “whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.”  We must hold him and his followers “as we hold the rest of mankind, Enemies in War, in Peace Friends.” 

Its time to take back our country.

  1. Michael, for years we have taught our children and ourselves that it is okay to go outside the law if you are right in your cause. Look at television cops, movie superheroes. How many times have we seen a suspect beaten to give up information, or a superhero go outside the law (seems almost a contradictory statement) to get the bad guys. For years, our foreign policy has been based on might being right. The sacking of the Capitol yesterday was the logical extension of what passes for freedom in this country, i.e. the right to do what I want, when I want, and to use force if necessary to get what I want.) This perversion of the notion of freedom (I try to remember that on July 4th we don’t celebrate INDIVDUAL freedom, but rather the day states JOINED TOGETHER to resist tyranny) has been perpetrated and abetted by leaders more interested gaining and keeping power for their own self interest, than creating a more free and just society. Until we return to a time where we see government as a way to “…establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty” and not the enemy of the people we will suffer the darkness and evil we saw in DC yesterday.


    1. Yes we celebrate “going outside the law” for the GREATER good but not for the individual. Batman is celebrated for vigilante justice but at the same time the Joker is repudiated for greed and self interest.

      YES, it must be “…establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty” not just to get what I want when I want it at any cost.

      There are a lot of apologies for Donald Trump’s mental condition. He’s no more sick than Al Capone. He’s the criminal not the superhero or the victim in this comic…


      1. Yes, and of course the problem is who defines acting for the greater good? Some of the thugs yesterday say they were acting (in their opinion) for the greater good. As of course were the “patriots” of 1776. Those loyal to King George didn’t see it in the same way. I will always believe that the real villains in this drama are Trump’s enablers who believed that they could control him for their own ends. Very much like the establishment in pre-WWII Germany who felt they could control the charismatic Hitler, using his popularity to keep control of Germany.


      2. Lets not confuse the “Patriots of 1776” with the hooligans and Sons of Liberty of 1774. Once the battlelines are drawn and the first shots fired, its war. What happened yesterday was an act of vandalism. When the Sons of Liberty “attacked” the ships in Boston Harbor, that was NOT patriotic valor, that was criminal destruction of property. When these so called “Trump Patriots” ransacked the Capitol, they were seeking the “greater good” but rather their and Donald Trump’s personal interests. Criminals will always have an excuse for their crimes.
