Okay, MAYBE I am a little less angry than I was yesterday but come on folks…
“THESE are the times that try men’s souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.
Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph.
What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives everything its value. Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as FREEDOM should not be highly rated.”— excerpted from The Crisis by Thomas Paine December 1776
Are we a republic and a nation where we value the rule of law or are be a “banana republic” where a rich overlord can do no wrong and the government exist to serve them not the people? Yesterday, armed insurrectionist stormed the Capitol and I am sorry that ONLY FOUR of them were killed. This was an act of war and cowardice and the police and military should have meet them with fixed bayonets and lethal force. Instead, they were treated with kid gloves and allowed to celebrate their vandalism not just of the Capitol but also of very fabric of our republic.
These were not protestors. These were not people seeking redress for injustices and oppression. NO, these were the oppressors attempting to overturn the government. These were Donald Trump’s personal militia determined to suppress the validation of an election and destroy 230 years of Constitutional rule in our country. We cannot, must not, allow this to stand. For some issues, we can move forward but we can NEVER FORGET. So, what should we do? What can we do? Well not ignore it and certainly not remain silent.
“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”Attributed to Edmund Burke , including by John F Kennedy in a speech in 1961.
We must tell our Congressmen and Senators that enough is enough. We must DEMAND that they prevent Donald Trump and his minions from causing more damage to our nation. We must take back the symbols they have usurped and sullied. Above all, we must confront those who align themselves with the anarchist and call them what they are… TERROIST!
Yes, our nation was formed out of rebellion but not on trivial and selfish lines. Our rebellion did not start with the Boston Tea Party but rather the Crown’s response to that act. Yesterday, Donald Trump “combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws”. He encouraged acts intent upon “abolishing our most valuable Laws and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments”. He “has excited domestic insurrections amongst us”. It is clear that any ruler “whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.” We must hold him and his followers “as we hold the rest of mankind, Enemies in War, in Peace Friends.”
Its time to take back our country.
