On September 17, 2022, Fort Mifflin took possession of an Amish surrey style wagon approximately 5 ft wide and 7 feet long in serviceable condition.  This buggy was donated by Warehouse on Watts and transported to the fort by Fort Mifflin staff.  The buggy is in “good” condition but not roadworthy and does need minor repairs to its roof.  Warehouse on Watts began this work but ultimately abandoned it as their business needs require a larger space.  Fort Mifflin is currently storing this buggy on premises.

Fort Mifflin plans to complete the conversion of this buggy into a concession vehicle and we really want your help. This carriage, when fully converted, will allow us to serve cold beverages in bottles or cans as well as provide a chilled beer on tap.  It will also be provisioned with the ability to serve food items heated with electric heating systems (like our hotdog cooker).  The intention is to create a fully self-contained concession stand which fits with our historical themes (both Revolutionary and Civil War era) and can be placed anywhere on the grounds.

I am putting together a committee to complete the conversion. Work will start sometime after Siege Weekend (11/12-13) and we want to complete the work sometime in the Spring.

Skills I need on the rebuild committee:

  • Carpenters
  • Electrician
  • Plumber
  • Painters
  • Graphic Artists
  • Mechanics
  • General Help (most of the work does not require great skill)

If you are interested, please join us for an exploratory planning meeting on December 14 at 7:30 pm via ZOOM.

Come help us build something cool and unique.

My goal is to bring history alive through interactive portrayal of ordinary American life in the late 18th Century (1750—1799) My persona are: Journeyman Brewer; Cordwainer (leather tradesman but not cobbler), Statesman and Orator; Chandler (candle and soap maker); Gentleman Scientist; and, Soldier in either the British Regular Army, the Centennial Army, or one of the various Militia. Let me help you experience history 1st hand!
