Okay, I pulled the plug on Facebook today.  All Facebook content from the Regimental Brewmeister and Colonial Brewer will disappear on 12/25/24.  I am now posting articles (when I remember, its manual) to BlueSky and I may engage other social media in the future but for now, I am focusing on www.colonialbrewer.com and public appearances and enjoying a respite from the hatemongers who frequent Facebook.

Over the last year, I have become sickened by what I see on Facebook.  I originally joined with the hopes of connecting with like-minded reenactors and other patriots but the barrage of asinine stupidity from the MAGA right has just become unbearable.  I know most of you who read this, regardless of political party affiliation, are not part of that problem.  We believe in American values like Love of Country, Freedom for All, the Dignity of all Mankind, Equal Rights, Justice, an abhorrence of hate-based politics, and a strong ethos of strength.  It is the lack of strength that will undermine our great nation over the next several years – we elected the weakest government in history – and listening to MAGA proponents of national ineptitude, stupidity, and weakness that drives me to rethink the time and energy I spend maintaining a Facebook presence and what I can do with that time.  Rather than fight the bullies on Facebook I am pledging to focus on local communities and teaching people to be strong, stand up to tyranny, remember what makes us great rather than try to quell the whining and whimpering of MAGA cowards and weaklings online.

You see, strength is a key issue of what is wrong with America today.  People despair that they have no control, but this is only because they are afraid to take control.  Being strong-minded and strong-willed is a fundamental quality of Americans and those of my generation need to reteach it to the youth.  Strength is not expressed in exploiting the weaknesses of others but rather in helping them overcome those weaknesses.  A coward points out weaknesses in others; the strong work to raise them up.  A coward, sows hate and division to make their position seem safer; the strong build relationships and improve bonds within a community.  Cowards look to their own self-interests; the strong look to the interests of the whole community.  Cowards expect special treatment; the strong expect justice.  Cowards lie cheat and steal; the strong accept the truth, protect others, and build.  Cowards seek safety in numbers even when they know the popular sentiment is ethically wrong but the strong know that sometimes you must stand alone for what is right.  I am no coward and I no longer want to associate with cowards.  America is a nation of the strong, the brave, and the just.  These are the values that make us great.

I’m sick and tired of attacks on immigrants. Immigrants are BRAVE people who left places where they were oppressed and are here to build new lives not take jobs from people wo don’t even want those jobs.  I’m tired of attacks on women; “real men” love strong women and want them as partners not trophies.  I’m sick of attacks on the LBGTQ, Islam, minorities, and other groups.  People should be valued by the way they behave rather than some intrinsic quality that they may not control.  “Real men” are never threatened by the lifestyle or personal choices, the color of someone’s skin, or any quality that does not directly relate to how someone interacts with them.  Cowards and bigots on the other hand feel these are important issues and often set double standards for others to explain their own faults.  At the end of the day, do you really care how someone prays or who they love?  If so, why does that threaten you…  Look to within.

Unlike 54% of Americans, I can plainly see that the price of diesel fuel was $5.75 in 2019 under Trump (higher as the pandemic took full impact but no one was driving) and only $3.54 yesterday under Biden.  I remember the supply chain collapse and how it was caused by denial and recriminations from DJT rather than constructive actions to protect the public health and the economy.  Only an absolute moron believes that he runaway inflation of 2020 – 2022 was the result of liberal policies rather than corporate survival tactics.  I have studied enough history to understand that the depression of 1929 was caused by the Smoot-Hawley Tariffs and that draconian tariffs are no substitute for tax reform.  American history also teaches us that the Alien and Sedition Acts were the product of a paranoid president afraid of criticism and these acts are responsible not just for a quasi-war with France but also the largest genocide, in terms of deaths and relocations, in human history being carried out against the native American peoples.  Any student of history knows that more atrocities have been committed in the name of Christianity than any other reason and that our Founding Fathers KNEW THAT when they authored the Constitution and Bill of Rights.  We are a secular nation for a reason. 

Finally, I know those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.  We in the reenacting community don’t shy away from the problems our ancestors encountered and created, we strive learn and teach lessons from these facts not sugar coat them.  Knowing that we are doomed to repeat the lessons we don’t learn, its easy to forecast what will happen over the next four years.  Just like the last Trump term, we will have two years of utter chaos followed by recriminations and investigations, and of course, a mid-term correction in Congress.  Markets will rally at first then crash as uncertainty sets in and our government becomes less predictable and stable.  Our allies will learn they cannot again trust the United States to partner constructively with them over trade and mutual defense and we will become more isolated.  Prices for everything will go WAY up (tariffs will amplify this effect).  THEN the pendulum will swing back, and the GOP will be out – taking MAGA with them.  Unfortunately, these pendulum swings are what ultimately destroys faith in the United States government.

It did not have to be this way but now we are stuck.  The plane is going down.  The America we knew will be in serious jeopardy and the American Empire (yes, we are an empire) will faulter leaving us with less.  DJT is intent or undermining the qualities in our country that make us great.  Unless we make efforts to preserve those ideals, our nation will soon be lost.

So, I encourage you to stand up.  Unplug from the hate channel and reengage in our local communities.  Stop arguing with the pig and start building up the resistance.  Take small actions every day to stem the tide of despair and destruction we know is coming.  This isn’t a revolution but a restoration we need to drive.  We have the ability to save what we value.

Stop buying things.  Deny the rich and the powerful the thing they most value, YOUR money.  We talk a lot about taxes, but the reality is corporations like Walmart steal more from us than our taxes ever could.  Take local actions to help those who are suffering.  Remind them our strength lies in solidarity and diversity.  Teach history and civic responsibility.  Sure its hard when we see the government careening out of control but show up to juries, vote, support your local officials and keep the ship afloat until 2028. 

MAGA and DJT are a disease, and our country has a massive infection.  We will get much worse before we get better, but we will recover.  Over the next four years, our country will get weaker, people will suffer, and it will be hard but in 2026, we can vote some of them out (incumbents from both parties need to go).  What does not kill us will leave us stronger and after we recover from this infection of Sidious traitors, we will be a great nation again.

I’m not going away.  I’m just regrouping for the next onslaught.  Join me in ACTIONS, the time for words has passed.
